Ever sit back while sipping on a beer and think to yourself, “I’ve drank this somewhere before?” Amanda stopped by Yards Brewing Company for a brief, unannounced brewery bio only to realize she had learned of them about a year ago. The revolutionary bust of Benjamin Franklin on their Poor Richard’s Tavern Spruce was the bit of knowledge she had of the brewery before popping in. Fun Fact: the Tavern Spruce comes from an original recipe crafted by old Lightning-Kite Ben himself!
“Based on Benjamin Franklin’s original recipe, which called for barley, molasses and essence of spruce, our Tavern Spruce is as approachable and engaging as the man himself. We source blue spruce clippings from a local organic farm, Indian Orchards, steeping them in the kettle to create this one-of-a-kind deep amber ale.”
Tim Roberts is the head brewer at Yards, where they keep 8 year round beers flowing from their taps, 3 of which are in their Revolutionary Series, featuring Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. How do you think our founding fathers and first president would feel about being honored on the labels of a few finely crafted ales? I guess having your face printed on national currency is quite the accomplishment, but personally, I’d rather be revered by the sacred fraternity of craft beer enthusiasts.
For his First Beer Memory Tim recalls a “beer epiphany” he had in college. Many are sure to relate to this; a moment where one decides to stand up against the tides of oppressive, tasteless beer, and vow to never buy bad beer again. Craft brews are taking over the nation. Join them in their cause.
